Which pets should beginners focus on first?
For beginners, we recommend starting with Chompy Chick (easiest pet in the game), followed by Giant Mole for your first boss pet. These have reasonable requirements and drop rates. Avoid skilling pets initially as they require massive time investments.
How accurate are the time estimates in this calculator?
Our estimates are based on expected value calculations using official drop rates. Remember, RNG means you could get lucky (or unlucky). The "10h/50h/100h success" percentages give you realistic probability ranges. Use custom kill rates for more personalized estimates.
Should I prioritize profitable pets or fast pets?
This depends on your goals and account status. If you need GP, prioritize profitable pets like Vorki or Cerberus. For collection log completion, focus on high efficiency scores. Our calculator factors both profit and time to give you balanced recommendations.
What's the most expensive pet to obtain?
Theatre of Blood and Inferno pets are among the most expensive due to high supply costs and time requirements. Skilling pets like the Heron require minimal GP but massive time investments. Check our "Total Cost" calculations for budget planning.
Can I get multiple pets from the same source?
No, you can only receive one pet per source. However, some sources have multiple pets (like Grotesque Guardians dropping both Noon and Midnight). Once you have a pet, you won't receive duplicates from that source, so focus on completing one before moving to the next.
How do Combat Achievement rewards affect pet hunting?
Combat Achievements can significantly improve your pet hunting efficiency by providing improved drop rates for certain bosses (like Wilderness bosses), teleports for faster access, and bonuses that reduce supply costs. These are factored into our advanced calculations.
Why am I going so dry on OSRS pets? Is there bad luck protection?
OSRS has NO bad luck protection for most pets - each kill is completely independent. Going "dry" (over drop rate) is statistically normal. For a 1/3000 pet, about 13.5% of players won't get it by 6000 kills. Use our probability calculator to see realistic dry streak chances and manage expectations.
Do higher skill levels improve pet drop rates in OSRS?
Yes, but only for skilling pets. The formula is 1/(B-(Levelร25)) where B is base chance. Pet rates improve until level 99, then stay constant. The major exception: at 200M XP, skilling pets become 15x more likely. Boss pets are unaffected by combat levels - only kill speed matters.
What's the fastest pet to get in OSRS for beginners?
Chompy Chick is the fastest (1/500 rate, 100+ kills/hour, minimal requirements). For boss pets, Chaos Elemental offers the best efficiency with 1/300 rate and 20 kills/hour. Skotos has the best drop rate (1/65) but requires dark totems, making it slower overall.
How does OSRS pet insurance work? Can I lose my pet?
Pets can be lost upon death if not insured. Insurance costs 500k GP from Probita in East Ardougne and protects your pet permanently. If uninsured and you die, you'll need to pay 1M GP to reclaim it. Always insure pets immediately - losing a rare pet due to disconnect or mistake is devastating.
Which OSRS pets are actually worth hunting for profit?
Vorkath (Vorki), Zulrah, and Chambers of Xeric (Olmlet) offer the best profit-per-hour while pet hunting.Kraken is the most AFK profitable option. Avoid Wilderness pets unless you're experienced with PK risk. Use our profit calculations to compare realistic GP/hour rates.
How many pets can you have following you in OSRS?
Only one pet can follow you at a time. You can store unlimited pets in your bank or POH menagerie. To switch pets, bank your current one and withdraw the desired pet. There are currently 66 available pets in OSRS, with 63 filling collection log slots. Our calculator covers all huntable pets.
What's the difference between OSRS boss pets and skilling pets?
Boss pets have fixed drop rates (usually 1/3000-1/5000) and require combat/Slayer levels. Skilling pets use level-based formulas, making them easier at higher levels but requiring massive time investments. Boss pets often provide profit while hunting; skilling pets usually cost supplies but train your skills.
